Street style lessons from the Italians at Milan Fashion Week

 

I’ll admit: Some parts of Italian culture are more accessible (pasta, gelato, wine) than others (fashion), but there’s no denying that Italians ooze style and confidence. While it can be intimidating to fully emulate their effortless swagger, we can look to the details to learn a thing or two and translate street style from Milan Fashion Week to the everyday.

 

 

Mesh is the new lace. It’s taking form in shirts, dresses, skirts… Tone down sexy mesh for daytime by wearing it in tailored shapes or under a ladylike jacket.

 

 

Funky prints. ’90s fashion is fresh again. Sweatshirts and primary prints are easy to pull off by keeping the rest of the look fitted and monochrome.

 

 

Dress You Up In My Love. Lips were all over fashion week streets. Lip prints and bold colors complete any ole black outfit.

 

 

Pumped-up kicks. Put your feet first: the sneaker is here to stay. To keep your look sleek, stick to one color palette and pair with well-fitted pants.

 

 

Not-so-Neutrals. Neutral can come in the form of tribal print. Pick up pants or a jacket, and build out with solid pieces in similar colors. Fun and daring!

 

 

Perfect patterns. If you’re afraid of adding pattern to your clothing, why not start with accessories? Shoes, a bag, or even just a scarf can add the oomph you’re looking for.

 

 

Easy Breezy. Invest in a black maxi skirt that fits you perfectly. It’s a fantastic substitute for jeans when you want to elevate your otherwise ordinary look.

 

 

Put a lid on it. You may think that your head is shaped weird or too large for hats, but there is one for everyone. The scariest part is trying one on, but know that the sooner you start looking the sooner you’ll find your perfect match.
